Since there is a high probability of a server wipe soon, I figured I do something I normally don't and build something big above ground. I built this tower just over the crafting room so that when spiders come I can deal with them quickly from above. These were taken during construction: To show a bit of the height. The core shaft has four reinforced concrete shafts that go all the way to stone below. The "pill box" uses metal trussing that is light weight but strong. I have two metal truss beams that are on top of the reinforced concrete beams making the spine one long support structure. I used iron bars along the exterior to shoot through straight down and out to the sides: Unfortunately, all the work and materials went to waste. The pillbox failed after the last block was placed on the roof. The two center trusses remained but the "skirt" that formed the pillbox failed at the wedges that attached to the side of the spine. I think it would have been better to use blocks instead of the wedges/ramps so that the box sits atop the spine rather than attaching to the spine. I also might have done better to extend "T" structures in metal trussing off the main columns so that they would take the weight of the ceiling (that was regular cement blocks, not reinforced in order to save weight and material).

The end result: I don't have the time now to do anything with this. I leave for a week of work out of the country then the missus and I have a short trip to see family in Europe so it'll just have to be an eye-sore out in the middle of nowhere. Bummer. By the way, if you know the location of any of my crafting stations then you likely know my door pass codes. Feel free to utilize the stations if you need to move through that area. They're all basically a day's travel apart so you can leapfrog from station to station to get pretty far away from the core, where all the griefing occurs. Here are a couple more shots of what the tower once was, for about 10 seconds. =)

Nice one! By the way, I left some rifle parts for you at the northern most point of the pyramid wall — buried in a box locked with my standard door code.

I triggered the x-ray bug by accident again and got a cool shot of the tower. At the bottom of the tower I added a spike pit and learned that you can shoot rifles and pistols through iron bars but you can't loot zombies through them. I was in a tight, zombie-dug hole that I had just cleared of zombies when I took these pictures and shortly after, a gore block above me appeared and pushed me into the void and I had to reconnect. DOH!
